We were able to convince the prosecutor that Darrel was clearly not the culprit. They dismissed the case the day of trial.
Darrel was afraid of being charged with a crime he didn’t commit because someone else used his lost license. He was also afraid of how this incident would affect his schooling and ability to play college ball.
Darrel F. was a college basketball player. He lost his driver’s license on Spring Break, but never reported it lost. When he came back from college for summer break he helped his family move to another house. While at home, he gets a court summons in the mail accusing him of petit theft. Darrel has no idea what the letter is about and decides to hire our firm. We figured out that someone had picked up Darrel’s lost driver’s license and used it. This person wasn’t arrested, there was only a written citation that had Darrel’s information on it.
We looked up the loss prevention officer’s account of the event. The description of the person who stole the items was completely different from Darrel. The officer was also supposed to take a thumbprint for the citation, but he had taken such a horrible print that the results came back inconclusive. We also got an affidavit from Darrel’s mom and sister that he was helping them move the day the crime was committed.
