Tony La Russa DUI Arrest Video & DUI Mistakes spelled out by a DUI Defense Attorney

Tony La Russa made at least 10 mistakes during his Florida DUI arrest, and a Fort Lauderdale DUI attorney spells them out.

His most recent mistake? Getting a second DUI and trying to get out of it by saying: “Do you see my ring?” “I’m a hall of famer baseball person.” “I’m legit. I’m a hall of famer brother.” According to Yahoo Sports.

Tony La Russa, 76, made similar mistakes in his first DUI (Driving Under the Influence charge) back in 2007.

He drank and then drove – and then subsequently fell asleep at  the wheel at an intersection in Jupiter, Florida. And then… well watch the video for the other 10 mistakes he made:

The original Jupiter police body camera video used for this video was shared by Palm Beach Post on YouTube.

This video has been edited and captions detailing all of La Russa’s DUI fumbles (Foul balls? Too soon?) are courtesy of Rossen Law Firm

Tony La Russa DUI Video arrest mistakes: Revealed in Jupiter Police Body Camera Video

1 – He doesn’t invoke his right to remain silent. He tells cops where he’d been.

2 – He told police he’d been drinking AND said he’d had 2 drinks. (PS: Police say “everyone” says they’ve had 2 drinks – so if you say you’ve had 2 drinks, the assume you’ve had more.)

3 – He consents to field sobriety tests (in Florida, there is absolutely NO penalty for not doing the field sobriety tests – so don’t do them. Ever. Even if you’re sober.)

4 –  Totally flops the field sobriety tests. He wobbles, can’t keep his balance, and invents a new alphabet.

5 – He keeps talking in the police car. Legitimate questions might be ok, but in general silence is golden. It does the most to protect, and not hurt you, until you have an attorney.

6 – He consents to a breath test – TWICE. You can say no, there are consequences, however. On a first DUI, we typically recommend saying no to breath tests. In general, all breath tests do is help police build their case against you (the main penalty for refusing the breath tests comes at the cost of potential drivers license suspension)

7 – He keep talking, again.

8 – He admits to having been drinking. He also says how many drinks he’s had. This is a bad idea. Police will never believe you no matter how many drinks you say, and what you just did by admitting to drinking and driving was confirm their suspicion that you might be under the influence.

9 – Answering Questions – again, especially when police ask questions you want to let them know you’re using your right to remain silent and that they’ll have to wait until you have an attorney present.

10 – “do you know who I am?” — police don’t care and DUI’s don’t discriminate

I had an unfortunate situation with a family member that lead to my arrest and being charged with DV Battery. This was the first time I had ever been arrested so I was very nervous and afraid of what was going to happen to me. After talking with Adam I decided to retain him and let me tell you this was the BEST decision I could have ever made. Adam made me feel so comfortable and confident that everything will turn out the best in my favor. He is professional, ethical and supportive. He was always available too answer any questions or concerns. Not to mention, his team at the office is awesome they are so friendly and welcoming. Anytime I had a question when I called the office they were able to guide me in the rightdirection. They always were in contact with me with any information or updates regarding my case. Adams team is GREAT!Adam delivered, my case was DISMISSED. So if you want an attorney the is gonna fight for you and get the job done retain the BEST there is Adam Rossen!!!

Adam Rossen and the team at Rossen Law took great care in handling my case. They are very professional, and get the job done. I was particular relieved to see just how much empathy they showed with me, and how effortless it was to be their client.I literally visited them twice. My initial consultation, and then to pickup the final docs. I have nothing but great things to say about these folks, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks Guys.

I had an amazing experience with The Rossen Law Firm. The staff were very professional. Attorney Susan Lawson went above and beyond working on my case. We were thoroughly prepared for trial. Mrs. Lawson reviewed hours of body and dash camera footage multiple times and aggressively performed depositions on witnesses and law enforcement. The final outcome for me was the state dropped my case, due to the great work Susan and the Rossen team performed. I didn’t even need to go to trial. This law firm does not play around. They pay attention to detail and they FIGHT FOR YOU!Thank you Adam, team, and a special thank you to Susan for your amazing work! I really appreciate you.

My experience with Rossen Law Firm was excellent. From the consultation to the end.. My attorney Susan Lawson gave my son's case all the time and attention that was needed to be successful in court. She was confident during all the court proceedings. My favorite part was when she said we are family, never once my son and I were treated other then that. I very much appreciate the knowledge and support I received through Rossen Law Firm.
