The foundation of the department is the Police Services Division, which consists of Road Patrol and Special Operations, as well as School Resource Officers. The Traffic Unit enforces traffic laws and investigates accidents and traffic homicide investigations. The Community Oriented Policing Unit was created to develop partnerships between the Police Department and the community, promoting safer neighborhoods and streets, and utilizing problem-solving skills to resolve issues and assist problem areas within the community. The unit has one sergeant, four officers assigned to various areas of the city, four officers assigned to Nova Southeastern University and two assigned to Broward College.
